BFC Staff

Gil Olsen
Senior Pastor

Gil was born in Central California and raised in Davis. The Olsen family moved to Hemet in 1965. Gil graduated from Hemet High School and Biola University. He and Charyla (Bridges) were married in 1970. Gil's first position (as a youth pastor) was in La Puente. They eventually returned to minister to the San Jacinto Valley.

When Bible Fellowship Church of the San Jacinto Valley formed in 1976, Gil was invited to become the first full-time pastor. During his time at BFC he has earned his Masters of Divinity Degree from Talbot Seminary in 1978 and his Doctor of Ministries degree from Denver Seminary in 1993.

As Senior Pastor, Gil’s main responsibilities are to teach God’s Word from the pulpit and to give opportunity to preachers in training. BFC believes in equipping leaders, encouraging growth in the professional staff and elders, and a seeks a clearly cast vision for ministry which church planting both here and abroad. In the community Gil maintains a high level of involvement in the Christian Ministers Prayer Fellowship of the San Jacinto Valley. Gil's vision is that Bible Fellowship Church would be faithful to the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ to "go and make disciples of all nations" (Mt 28:19-20)! It is his desire to see individuals and families come into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and grow in Him through discipleship so that they can communicate their faith. A dynamic local church is the best means of accomplishing this goal and church planting is a central part of this vision.

Gil and Charyla have two adult children. Their daughter, Cara Bergeron lives in Florida, with her husband Brian and 4 children. Their son Aaron lives in San Leandro with his wife Shauna and two children. In his "spare time" Gil enjoys reading, playing golf, and visiting with the grandkids.

 


 

Jason King
Director of Worship and Creative Arts

Jason was born and raised in Bakersfield, California. He attended San Diego State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education in 1996. While spending four years at SDSU he was involved with Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF), holding various leadership positions which included leading small group Bible studies and helping lead worship for weekly large group meetings.

Jason and his wife Andrea were married in 1995. They have two sons, Nathan and David, and one daughter, Liya.

In March of 1997, God called Jason to come to BFC as part-time Director of Music. In July 1999 the position became full-time. His responsibilities include planning worship services, developing and rehearsing worship music teams, and overseeing the welcome ministry.

Jason's interests include music, computers, and discipling/teaching others.

  


 

Tula D.
Children's Ministries Director

Tula D. was born in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and came to Christ while attending college in Yugoslavia in 1990. (She holds BA in Business Administration). She and Aldar D. were married in 1992.

Together with Aldar, Tula was privileged to start the first churches in Mongolia and to help bring several mission organizations to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. (FEBC, MAF Europe) As leaders of the first congregation they were involved in all aspects of church ministry.

They came to the US in 1994 to attend Evangel University in Missouri. During their college years there, Tula and Aldar were youth leaders at Emanuel International Church. Since relocating to Hemet in 1998, Tula has served with the BFC’s Mission Team, Women’s Ministries, Children’s Ministries and has been involved in mission mobilization, church planting and translation of training materials.

Tula joined the BFC staff as Director of Children’s Ministries in 2003. Her responsibilities include the recruitment, training, leadership and supervision of numerous volunteers as well as planning and scheduling curriculum, creation of materials and implementation of programs and special events. The goal of Children’s Ministry is to proclaim and demonstrate God’s love to children, as shown in the Scriptures, and to help them grow in spiritual maturity by training, and discipling them in a fun-filled, child-friendly, safe environment.

Additionally, as active participants in the Missions Team every summer they lead teams to continue to reach the unreached and to offer encouragement and trainings.

Aldar and Tula have two beautiful daughters.

 


 

Susan Gomez
Secretary

Susan Altrock was born in San Bernardino and grew up in Bloomington, CA. Susan attended Christian elementary and jr. high schools in the Fontana area. After working in retail for many years, she became a medical secretary.

Susan and David Gomez were married in 1984 and made their home in Hemet where David was working as a Registered Nurse. They began attending BFC in the early 1990's.

Susan joined the staff as secretary in October of 1996 and is currently responsible for maintaining the church data base, producing publications such as weekly bulletins, sermon outlines, & powerpoint, greeting almost everyone who comes into the office, and general secretarial duties.

Susan and David are active as Greeter / Usher, in prayer ministries, and have led small group Bible studies in the past. Susan is passionate about prayer and desires to see others connect with God in purposeful, meaningful conversation.

The Gomezezz enjoy off-highway driving and volunteer with the USFS as Fire Lookout Hosts.

They have no children (unless you include their cat -- Sneaky Zeke.)

 


 

Rita Murphy
Administrative Assistant

Rita was born in Chicago Illinois. Her family moved to California in 1951 and settled in Lakewood. Rita accepted Christ as her Savior in 1978 at a Costa Mesa Calvary Chapel Women’s Retreat. At that time she was married with 3 daughters and expecting her son. 

In 1980 Rita and family moved to Hemet. Her daughter Alisa had a friend named Cara Olsen and Cara’s father (Pastor Gil) coached their soccer team. As they became acquainted, Pastor Olsen called Rita in December 1988 and asked if she would like to work in the church office. That was 21 years ago!

Rita has been involved in small groups since those early days and has been blessed by studying God’s Word with other Believers. She is currently the Memorial Luncheon Chairperson for Women’s Ministries and is privileged to serve others during a difficult time in their life.

Some of Rita’s responsibilities include accounts payable, payroll, ordering supplies, maintaining key roster and overseeing the Facility Scheduler for use of rooms needed for meetings, Bible Studies, weddings, luncheons, etc.

Rita now works part-time and enjoys spending time with her children and 8 precious grandchildren.

Tula D.
