I remember Tony Evans talking about how his mother finally came to Christ. He said that his dad first came to the Lord and really changed from an ugly tempered man to a man of peace. His dad got up every morning early and had a rich devotional time with the Lord in Bible reading and prayer. His mom used to come downstairs and upon seeing his dad in devotions with Jesus, would ridicule him and make fun of his new faith in Christ. But as Tony's dad manifested the Fruit of the Spirit, (love, joy, peace, etc.) his mom's defenses began to wear thin. One day she came down the stairs crying and broken confessing her need out loud for the personal relationship in Christ her husband had. This is what it means to be "peaceable."
As we obey the command to be Spirit-filled (controlled), we should begin to show forth toward others the Fruit of the Spirit (Eph 5:18-21; Gal 5:22-23). Remember that one of the most outstanding aspects of that Fruit is "peace." With the help of the Holy Spirit, keep the peace in your home, work place, school, neighborhood, and where ever God has plants you in this coming week.
