Jeff Whittenburg

Jeff and Marcia Whittenburg have been married for thirty-eight years. They have one son, Kyle, now thirty-four, and one daughter, Jana, now twenty-nine; plus they are proud grandparents of three wonderful grandkids with two more on the way.

Growing up in Southern California, Jeff had very limited but occasional church exposure. With his family, he occasionally attended a Southern Baptist Church in Fullerton, California, and a Missionary Baptist Church in Brea, California. Although the Gospel was preached and the opportunity to accept Christ was given, Jeff never really responded to the Holy Spirit's call, although on many occasions he felt the conviction from the Holy Spirit. At age nineteen, while visiting a Calvary Chapel outreach at the Episcopal Church in Riverside, California, Sunday night, September 19, 1971, Jeff raised his hand to accept Christ and followed up by going to the “prayer room” to pray with the elder and receive a Bible. Thus began his new freedom and walk with Christ. Right away Jeff got involved in a Friday night Bible study while continuing in the Sunday night church service along with reading and studying the Word regularly. This changed his life as well as the lifestyle that he had been living. Three months after salvation on December 28, 1971, Jeff was baptized one night in a backyard pool by two of the elders from the Episcopal Church that had opened its doors to the Calvary Chapel outreach.

In 1975, Marcia and Jeff moved to Hemet to begin their careers. Following about a year of church-seeking, they visited Bible Fellowship Church on the second Sunday of the move from the grapefruit grove into Ramona Elementary School. The teaching of God’s Word was very much in line with what they had been accustomed to at Evangelical Free Church in Fullerton where they had attended after leaving Riverside. They are still at BFC thirty-eight years later. Over these years they have continued to grow in their walk with Christ, augmented through many, many mid-week Bible studies, many missionary opportunities both locally and to Mexico, service opportunities on the BFC campus, the regular reading and meditation in God’s Word and opportunities to be involved in leadership, initially on the BFC deacon board.

Jeff has been an elder at Bible Fellowship Church since the late 80s. He has a strong concern to see that BFC holds fast to the biblical truths that form the foundation of this Body. His heart is to serve the Lord and His church with a group of men that love Jesus, love to be involved in outreach, and are extremely committed to maintaining the learning and outreach opportunities that BFC has always provided, while staying the course with the same doctrinal position regarding salvation that has marked BFC from its beginnings thirty-seven years ago. Jeff considers his spiritual gifts to be service and helps.

Jeff has been a career teacher at San Jacinto High School for 38 years. He is a Wood Technology Instructor.

Jeff loves camping, fishing, and woodworking.
